A Programme By The Burberry Foundation

Burberry Inspire

Launched in 2018, Burberry Inspire encourages and empowers a cohort of students in Yorkshire – where our iconic Heritage Trench Coat is made – to unlock their creative potential. Four years on, the programme has since journeyed to New York City across a further six schools.

The Power of Creativity

Guided by Burberry’s enduring belief that creativity opens spaces, Burberry Inspire is the hero programme of The Burberry Foundation and the first in-school arts and culture programme of its kind. It was founded to support, empower and inspire young people by uniting schools and locally renowned art organisations. Since its inception, the programme has enabled more than 10,000 students across 15 different schools to think positively about their future.

Community Nurtures Creativity

In Yorkshire, students engaged in workshops facilitated by organisations including Northern Ballet, Leeds Playhouse, The Hepworth Wakefield and Leeds Young Film that helped nurture their creativity through dance, theatre, film, and art. While in New York City, students were exposed to a host of new creative and cultural industries through workshops and experiences supported by the American Ballet Theatre, Reel Works, Studio in a School, and City University of New York Creative Arts Team.

‘Everyone was really encouraging and they didn’t care if it went wrong because you always make mistakes, and no one is ever perfect. It just gave me the courage, even though sometimes it might be hard, I can always push myself to the limits.’

‘[Burberry Inspire] showed them jobs and careers they hadn’t considered before. I’m not sure if they would like to do them, but the old saying is true – you can’t be what you can’t see. And they saw more jobs, they saw more careers, and they saw more adults doing things they’d never heard of before. And that, for me, is money in the bank because it’s more choices for children.’
